Make God Smile “?”

April 20, 2008

I have been several things in my life but a Blogger is not one of them. Well, that was until now. I’ve been one of those silent readers of blogs who rarely leave comments. I decided that I would really like to enter the discussion so I started “Make God Smile.”

I’m not sure how “Make God Smile” sounds to you but it has been an important personal thought to me for a long time. Somewhere along the way I had concluded that God was usually pretty frustrated with me and that my every effort was so feeble that it could only be seen by Him as pointless. This left me with a relationship that could best be compared to that of a son who can never measure up to the expectations of an overly critical dad. The result was a constant effort to measure up with no real potential of doing so. One of the tragedies was the guilt and frustration that replaced the potential of divine love and acceptance.

There is still some discomfort in the words, “Mark can bring joy to God” (Make God Smile) because of my awareness of how feeble my efforts are. But, the joy that I have in the efforts of my own children and grandchildren clears my thoughts. The fact that they tried, cared, loved, “meant to” and “wanted to” brings a satisfaction and joy of its own.

It is exciting to live for the purpose of Making God Smile. Whether at home, work, or play, Make God Smile! If reading, writing or speaking, Make God Smile! When with Christians or those who are not Christians, Make God Smile!

Wow! This is a fun way to live!

This is cool. I’ve never done this either. Years ago there was a lady who wanted me to get online with her for live conversations and I said i don’t have time to sit at the computer and just chat. If I communicated with her it would be via email, so I could read and respond quickly.

God bless you for being accessable.

I also feel discomfort when I think of God’s reaction to my feeble attempt at living this life…esp…the stumbling way I follow the perfect example of his Son. Glad you are blogging…look forward to future posts.

Mark: Good to see you’re a blogger….I’ve neglected mine lately – but do have a new one – “Rambo” @ kentuckycolonel@wordpress.com

I hadn’t thought about “Making God Smile”. So you’ve given me a challenge to retool my thinking. I, too, have those feelings of not being adequate in making my Father, smile. And I do have to relate to my daughters – how my children – make me smile. So, God, my father relates to me similarly since I’m his imperfect child.

    Write more brother. Good thoughts.
